Position Responsibilities
-Provide training and class instruction on a regular or substitution basis
-Motivate and inspire self and others to take action to achieve desired outcomes
-Advise members on program and class procedures and policies, answer questions from members after sessions, and assist in performing follow-up communications with members as required
-Plan and lead exercise sessions in one or more assigned fitness areas, such as low-impact aerobics, stretching/flexibility, circuit training, general fitness, weight training, older adults fitness, and more
-Set up and monitor class equipment and ensure it is returned in good condition
-All volunteers will be trained to assist the HMR team with providing tours of Y facilities and providing membership information and excellent customer service to guests
-Volunteer fitness instructors are required to spend time becoming acquainted with the Y’s philosophy, facilities, procedures, and other volunteers
-Use respectable language at all times
-Be well-groomed and appropriately dressed in clothing that is fitting for the position and that will leave the best possible impression on the public
-Accept the guidance and decisions from supervisors and/or directors and reporting planned or unplanned absences to them
-Treat staff, clients, and other volunteers of the YMCA of Greater Saint John with respect and dignity and be responsible in the use of the Y’s resources
-Perform volunteer responsibilities promptly, reliably, and to the best of one’s ability
-Adhere to the policies and procedures of the YMCA of Greater Saint John
-Accept and work within the YMCA of Greater Saint John’s guiding principles, mission, and values
-Display appropriate YMCA of Greater Saint John volunteer identification as required
-Participate in orientation and training programs when required
-Time commitment: Volunteer fitness instructors will need to be available one to five hours per week during the winter and spring seasons to properly meet the needs of our members.
