United for Literacy

About United for Literacy:

United for Literacy formerly Frontier College, is a national charitable literacy organization founded in 1899. We believe that literacy is a right and has the power to change lives. We work with schools, community-based organizations and volunteers across Canada to provide free (in-person and online) literacy support for children, youth, and adults, to help them succeed in school and life. We aim to serve the most vulnerable to low literacy skills who may not otherwise have access to the literacy support that they need. Our volunteer tutors tell us that they become more confident by gaining skills and experience through serving as a volunteer tutor. They experience a sense of purpose when their efforts have helped learners progress and succeed. Volunteering with United for Literacy has helped them get into competitive school programs and successfully find a job.

Our Mission:

We believe that literacy is a fundamental right. United for Literacy provides access to this right by reaching people across Canada, responding to their learning needs and encouraging lifelong learning.
