Seeking new Treasurer to start 01 Jul 2024 who enjoys getting down and dirty with the financial figures in support of an organization helps community members struggling with addiction, often on top of poverty, homelessness and mental health issues.

Dates and Times

Over the course of a year, I'd guess it averages out to less than an hour per day. But it's really variable. We just went through our fiscal year-end on March 31 - lots of stuff to be filed! January is busy with T4s and budget development. Board meetings are virtual, 1-2 hours long, monthly x July, August and December, plus in October we have an AGM instead of a board meeting (can be in-person or virtual). Treasurer must be available to go into the office and sign cheques weekly.

Required Qualifications

My own background is in banking, charitable bookkeeping and tax preparation. More formal accounting certification useful, but not required if you're willing to learn on the job. Must meet NB requirements for board members.

Position Responsibilities

Chief person responsible for keeping us on good terms with the CRA as well as meeting financial requirements to continue receiving federal and provincial funds. Works closely with ED, office manager and part-time bookkeeper.

Volunteer Benefits

I've held this position for 20+ years, from back in the days when we were an AIDS organization to our current focus on harm reduction. Things change! There's always something new to learn about the work we do and the people we do it for. Financial rules, regs and procedures also change, so I've kept learning there are well. If you don't like continually learning new things, this is not the job for you.
